A location for the airport was discussed during the planning of the Australia's new capital city and in the 1920s, an existing airstrip formed the basis of this important, up-and-coming hub. In subsequent years, Canberra Airport was heavily used by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and in 1998 was privatised.
